At its golden age Kaehr Morhen was the stronghold of the witchers, today it is nearly a relict of the past. You can only imagine which reputation and splendour was held in high esteem to this stronghold. Hundreds of the best monster hunters were trained here, Geralt as well. Based on his white hair the legend calls him the"White Wolf".
But even legends can not escape the death. According to his friends and the ballads of the poets, Geralt died at a human-caused rebellion against the elves and dwarfs.
The game "The Witcher" continues the story of Geralt of Riva. Once presumed dead he was found badly injured by witchers. They cared about his injuries and helped him to recover. Geralt for himself has one problem: He lost his memory and he can not remember anything. He neither know what happened nor where he came from. It imply the RPG-feeling all in all, you have to solve different quest and get bit by bit to your main objective. Sometimes it is a little exhausting because you have to run around a lot. You really get a lot to know of the human factor of Geralt because of his relation ships to women and the political decisions he have to make. There will be still some questions at the end of the game but everyone have to find his own way for themselves. At the end you know the fact that witchers kill monsters but it is a matter of interpretation how you define what a monster is, if it is human, elf or dwarf. A werewolf maybe is more human than the enemies you fight against.
Gameplay:
The fighting system in the game is designed very simple but still interesting. With a simple mouse click Geralt starts attacking. You only have to choose the fighting style you want to use, therefore you have a strong, a quick and a group style. There is also the fact that you have to choose between a steel sword, good against human and a silver sword which is good against monsters. During the fight it depends on the right moment when you have to click the mouse button. If you catch the right point of time you even can make a seven-hit-combo. The combat movements Geralt uses are animated very well and even you will not miss the blood. It depends on the sword and style you use how the fighting animations look like, so you do not get bored looking at him during the combats. Geralt is skilled in a few finishing-moves, if the enemy lays on the ground or is paralysed, it's very nice to look at these moves. Besides the swords Geralt has the possibility to use some spells. In the game these spells are called "signs".
Besides fire and air magic, there will be a shield and trap spell to your disposal, as well as a mind control spell. A very important element you mustn't forget in a game like "The Witcher" is the alchemy and it doesn't come off badly. There are countless recipes, herbs, potions and bombs which you can use and should make the game easier for you. Countless ingredients are too much for a game, so it becomes confusingly in the end. But there is only a less equipment. You didn't find as much armours as in other RPGs, it's a pity. This caused a desire for more innovation. However I have to make a compliment for the different types of monsters in the game. You always get to know another type of monster so you don't get rid of killing monsters over and over again.

"The Witcher" has a very nice graphic. The different places are designed very kind and exactly in detail. There are a lot of different environments: caves, towns, swamplands, graveyards and although the surrounding area. Everything is presented in high detail. However, I think the graphic representation of Geralts equipment is quite to simple, because his clothes are almost made of leather and fabrics. The game gets a big compliment for the soundtrack, it does not matter where you are, there is always the right music for the right moment. On the one hand when you visit a idyll the sound there is very relaxing, on the other hand it is the opposite in battles. Indeed there are some problems with the dialogues. The intonation is often wrong or even missing and because of that the conversations are often boring. Sometimes you can not decide if he impresses anger or happiness and that is really a pity.
